imeem API Wishlist
Lat week imeem, the music, video and photo sharing social network, opened its doors even wider when it announced its allegiance with Google’s Open Social. With this announcement, and that of the original API opening up in March, I have decided to come up with a wishlist for developers that will help indie bands utilize the power of imeem. (I apologize if these already exist, even better if you have developed one of these, please leave some comment love and we will be sure to feature it to our readers and users!)
1. Pownce Playlist sharing. I am a big Pownce fan, in fact I’m slowly writing a series on how musicians can distribute their record online for free using the service (but I’m awaiting a response from Leah Culver). What I would like to see here is a sharing feature that allows Pownce friends to share playlists and play them like a YouTube video inside of Pownce. This probably isn’t too complicated, but a cool feature nonetheless.
2. Overall Stats and Media Tracker. Music marketers would love to see accurate reporting of what are the most current and popular playlists and songs. Marketers can also capitalize on what people are saying and calling the playlists to capitalize on trends within a geographic region. This can help with radio releases and regionalized touring.
3. Buzzword Tracker. Much like Summize for Twitter, this is a way that marketers, promoters and artists can track conversations regarding any number of topics. The results can come in the form of titles of playlists, comments, song titles and so on. This is a great way to see where, who, when and what people are saying (or listening) about your band.
4. Easy integration with an online store. Someone please let me buy the playlists! Let your application search iTunes, Amazon, whatever and create a shopping basket with the songs. Now obviously I am not going to buy a 600 song playlist, but I’d like the dirty work of finding those 600 songs done by a robot.
What about you? Is there anything you want developers to invent or make better on the biggest music streaming website and number 3 social network (now only trailing Myspace and Facebook)?
Til next time!
