The New Standard for Music Marketing

SoundTrack from MTV

MTV rolled out a new Alpha site today called MTV’s Soundtrack. The site is geared towards the music that is played in their non-music shows.

The part that I like, we’ll see how it gets implemented, is the social and community aspect where as a band you can create a profile and have your songs considered for these reality based shows. Too bad the link is hidden on the lower half of the page.

The site is still in Alpha and is built entirely in Flash, which looks like is causing the site to run slower than normal. Also, content is not all there yet. A search for the show, The Hills, returns no artists, including hometown pop star Cori Yarckin, a fixture on the 3rd season.

We will be sure to follow this one as music licensing into film and tv have become a great way to get paid and get noticed by a large audience. It all depends if MTV decides this site is worthy of promotion on the big media channel.

A post-roll saying to check out exclusive content from “XYZ” band at SoundTrack.MTV.com would be a good start as would portals from the homepage and news site.
