Corporate Sponsors and SkatterBand Update
Happy 4th of July week!
I’ll start with a great article from the Wall Street Journal about Corporate Sponsors going after bands to help not only their brands but to help the bands launch their albums and products.
A quote from Greg Laswell, an indie musician on Vanguard Records says,
“It’s about repetition of hearing that song in the grocery store or the movie theater and going to where the people are, because they’re not going to the record store shopping for new music like we all used to.”
It’s a good read!
Back to SkatterBand and where we stand. We started off strong with posts nearly 3 times a week. Things have cooled down, but really they are cooking up behind the scenes. We are finishing a recruiting effort to bring in some more developers to work on the actual site and things are looking great for a September / October Alpha testing.
The other great news is that instead of reporting Music Marketing news, we are making some great things happen behind the scenes to help artists out and do some test marketing of our own. A quick run down:
1. Alternative Distribution - We are working with the University of Central Florida, local bands and vendors to out special MP3’s that are available with purchase of special items. We are hoping to see the effects of whether kids are going to actually take the step to download the music and then how all of this correlates to album sales and show attendance.
2. Twitter Music Conference - Still very early in the planning stages, but we wanted to get the Social Music Marketing message across through one of the mediums that is defining the movement. More info to come soon.
3. Atlantis Music Conference - I will be speaking on the technology and DIY panel on Thursday, September 18th. If you are going to be in Atlanta around that time, let’s meet up!
That’s it for today. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be back with some more insight into the Digital Music Marketing industry.
